"Yoga has helped me in so many ways; my prolapsed disc, my bad knee, my posture, my emotional well-being, migraines, balance and insomnia! I feel happier, more content. I now sleep better and feel more relaxed. I take less medication now. Overall, I feel more balanced, both physically and emotionally, and am much more connected to myself."
SOMATIC BODi YOGA
with Jo Davidson
Soma means 'concious living body experienced from within'.
BODi is the 'I' that experiences the Body within.
Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘connection’.
In Sanskrit, the word ‘yoga’ is used to signify any form of connection. Yoga is both a state of connection and a body of techniques that allow us to connect to anything.
Conscious connection to something allows us to feel and experience that thing, person, or experience.
Somatic BODi Yoga is not a different style of yoga but rather a movement therapy, a way of re-educating the way our brain senses and moves the muscles.
Our muscles can become tight or restricted due to development reasons, habitual patterns, emotional stress, injuries or trauma. Small, slow and gentle movements are used to re-educate the brain so that it can relax and move these muscles more functionally.
Yoga is a science, that is, it is a body of techniques that lead us to consciously connect with ourselves and with life, the experience of yoga. As yoga is a science, there is no dogma or belief system attached to it. Yoga simply tells us to do a certain practice and then to feel the effect of that practice, e.g. if we breath slowly in a relaxed manner we will slow our heart rate; if we focus the mind we will develop mental peace and deep insight.
Somatic BODi Yoga can be used to help:-
- Release and reverse neuromuscular pain (chronic and acute)
- painful joints and muscles
- neck, shoulder and back pain
- hip, knee and foot pain
- repetitive use injuries
- poor posture
- accident traumas and whiplash
- breathing problems
- frozen shoulder syndrome
The experience of connection is a state of yoga, a joyful and blissful, fulfilling experience.
